The Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs,  HE Mrs Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, made an official working visit to Latvia September 8-9.
During her visit HE had meetings and discussions with her Latvian counterpart HE Mr Maris Riekstins, visited Parliament, the President and also several Latvian Icelandic companies in Riga.

The Minister commented on the number of Icelandic companies in Latvia and said “it is good to be an Icelander in Latvia and our companies have been well received and Icelanders and Latvians work well together.  Iceland and Latvia have many things in common, open and strong markets, well educated people ready to accept the challenges of a new world”
Among the companies visited was SIA Hospital Organiser, a management consulting and innovative technology solutions company. SIA Hospital Organiser works closely with the National University Hospital in Reykjavik Iceland with over 20 years of experience in this area.

Subsequently HE visited the Children’s Clinical University Hospital in Riga. SIA Hospital Organiser is working with several Latvian hospitals, including Children’s Clinical University Hospital, to improve work processes and support them with innovative IT solutions aimed at improving patient quality of care and reduce workloads on medical health care staff.  The technical solutions are based on the concept of a wireless handheld computer the doctor carries with him when on duty. Using the handheld wherever he is or whenever he wants he can review medical records, make prescriptions, etc.
